Does this product need to be sanded before painting?

This product does not require sanding before painting. For best results, prime the product thoroughly to achieve a smooth, consistent, paint-ready surface. The carved areas may require additional prime coats. Once priming is finished, paint the product with a good quality, vinyl safe 100% acrylic latex paint. If painting the product a dark color, colors that have an LVR rating of 54 or lower, use paints with heat reflective characteristics specifically formulated for use on vinyl or PVC products.

I plan on installing this shiplap product vertically. How many kits do I need to install 14 linear feet at 52 inches total height including moulding?

This product covers 8' linear length (moulding included), in the heights in 32", 40", 56", or 96". We'd recommend ordering the 56" and the boards can easily be trimmed down to accommodate 52" overall height. For 14 linear feet, you would need two kits, and would have a little extra (which is ideal)

Can this be used on a shower wall?

Yes, this product can be used on a shower wall. As with any product installed in a high-moisture environment, make sure to caulk/seal the edges with a waterproof sealant, to protect the moulding from water from sitting behind it.

Do you prime and paint this before you install it or after?

It is highly recommended that you paint or finish your wainscoting kit before you install it. We recommend the use of 100% acrylic latex paint for this product. It installs, cuts, and trims, easily and hassle-free with general woodworking tools - making it simple for any level installer! PVC wainscoting works great in high-humidity applications (like a bathroom or basement) as it will not rot, crack, or split.

Do the top and bottom rails have a channel to hold the shiplap?

No, each component (top rail, shiplap, bottom rail) installs separately, to assure a sturdy and long-lasting wainscot kit. They install easily and hassle-free with construction adhesive and finishing nails, making it simple for any level installer. The PVC can also easily be trimmed with general woodworking tools.

Our shiplap kits are available in a custom milled pattern, giving you the look of traditional shiplap with a perfect 1/8" gap in between each board to give you the desired "nickel gap" effect. Nickel gap wainscoting offers a clean-line, modern take on shiplap with an interlocking "tongue and groove" profile so they don't overlap at all. The "tongue" actually fits in the "groove," and once installed on a surface, the boards have a gap between them, so you don't get warping that causes shiplap boards to look crooked or uneven. Our shiplap kits are premium paint-ready cellular PVC products.
